The Malpighi Award

The Malpighi Medal was made from the original MALPIGHI MEDAL, pictured on p. 21 of the book "Anatomia in mummis" by Professor Helmut Ferner, Urban & Schwarzenberg, München-Berlin-Wien, 1972. This original medal dates from 1693, has a diameter of 36 mm and was made by St. Urbain. Prof. F. Hammersen received the original medal from Prof. Ferner for a few days to have the mold made by the Münz-Präge GmbH, München (Munich). Five medals and the mold were donated by Hammersen and Messmer after the Garmisch-Partenkirchen meeting.
